GNM ( General Nursing & Midwifery)

The GNM course is a three-year diploma program designed to prepare aspiring nurses like you to become compassionate and skilled caregivers. Throughout this journey, you will delve deep into the realms of medical science, patient care, and nursing ethics. Your dedication and commitment during these years will lay the foundation for a fulfilling and rewarding career.

As a GNM student, you will be exposed to a comprehensive curriculum that covers a wide range of subjects. From anatomy and physiology to specialized areas like pediatric nursing and midwifery, you will gain knowledge that will enable you to handle diverse patient needs with confidence and competence.

GNM programme is meant to prepare general nurses who can efficiently perform as members of the health team and capable of dealing the competencies in both the hospitals and other such organizations.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

  • Minimum and Maximum age for admission will be 17 and 35 years. There is no age bar for ANM/LHV.
  • Minimum education:
    • 10+2 class passed preferably Science (PCB) & English with aggregate of 40% marks.
    • 10+2 in Arts (Mathematics, Biotechnology, Economics, Political Science, History, Geography, Business Studies, Accountancy, Home Science, Sociology, Psychology, Philosophy) and English Core/English Elective or Health care Science – Vocational stream ONLY, passing out from recognized Board under AISSCE/CBSE/ICSE/SSCE/HSCE or other equivalent Board with 40% marks.
    • 10+2 vocational ANM under CBSE Board or other equivalent board with 40% marks.
    • Registered as ANM with State Nursing Registration Council.
  • Student shall be medically fit.
  • Students qualified in 10+2 Arts or Science examination or Health care Science – Vocational stream ONLY conducted by National Institute of Open School with 40% marks.
  • Student shall be admitted once in a year.

DURATION OF THE COURSE

The Diploma course in General Nursing and Midwifery shall be of three years duration.

SCOPE

The scope of work for individuals who have completed the GNM course is broad and encompasses various responsibilities in the field of nursing and midwifery. Here are some of the key areas where GNM graduates can work:

  1. Hospitals and Clinics: GNM nurses can work in hospitals, clinics, and healthcare facilities,providing direct patient care. They may assist doctors in medical procedures, administermedications, monitor patient vital signs, and provide wound care.
  2. Maternity and Obstetrics: GNM-trained midwives can work in maternity and obstetricsdepartments, providing antenatal and postnatal care to expectant mothers. They assist during childbirth, monitor the health of both the mother and baby, and provide education on maternal and infant care.
  3. Paediatric Care: GNM nurses can work in paediatric departments, caring for infants, children, and adolescents. They administer vaccinations, monitor growth and development, provide paediatric treatments, and educate parents on child health and nutrition.
